STAAD.Pro and STAAD(X) include a standard analysis engine which provides a wide range of functionality, but this functionality can be greatly enhanced with the Advanced Analysis Module. Although relatively new to STAAD applications, Advanced Analysis Module has a well-established pedigree and is used in a number of respected high-end mechanical analysis applications such as Ansys, Nastran and SolidWorks.
The Advanced Analysis Module includes these major features:
Solves models up to 1000 times faster. Solver can be faster or slower depending on the type of load case and the type of structure on the same hardware which is obviously a consideration. Elements means members and plates. Great for large FEA based structures, RC Tanks, high-rise buildings, large steel structures, etc...
Geometric Non Linear Analysis
Yields more accurate results and sometimes the results could vary significantly depending on the geometry and sectional properties.
Advanced Parametric Meshing
Useful for complicated plate meshing, slabs and other structures requiring refining of the mesh size at certain locations. Gives users the ability to control density of mesh accurately and easily (Intelligent meshing)
Steady State Analysis
Is something like time history analysis of vibrating machinery or ground motion. Steady state analysis captures the excitation frequencies for dynamic analysis. Traditional Time History reports the initial response whereas Steady State reports the long term characteristics.
Buckling Load Analysis
Dynamic buckling (Eigen buckling). Eigen buckling analysis is very useful for capturing the buckling load without iterating the various load cases. This is a very useful feature for large models, slender steel structures and long span bridges.
Pushover Analysis per FEMA (limited to steel frames at this time)
